Preparing your Android for the trip
The Android ecosystem is vast and each manufacturer has their own menus, but the basic concept of installing an eSIM is the same. Here we show you how to do it on the main devices.
Samsung Galaxy devices
- Go to Settings > Connections.
- Select SIM Card Manager.
- Tap on Add mobile rate or Add eSIM.
- Choose Scan supplier QR code.
- Point the camera at the QR code and confirm the addition.
- Remember to go to the options of that SIM and activate Data Roaming (Roaming).
Google Pixel
- Go to Settings > Network and Internet.
- Next to "Mobile network," tap the + icon.
- When asked "Download a SIM instead?", tap Yes or Next.
- Scan the QR code provided by your provider.
- Activate the eSIM and turn on the Roaming or Data Roaming option.
General tips for Android
If your device asks you to choose which SIM to use for calls, messages and data, make sure you select your new eSIM specifically for Mobile Data, and your regular SIM for calls (if you want to receive important SMS from your bank).
Also, check the APN (Access Point Names) settings if your provider requires additional configuration, although most modern travel eSIMs configure themselves automatically.
