Installing an eSIM on iPhone is very easy
If you have just bought your first eSIM for a trip, it is normal to have doubts about the installation. Fortunately, Apple has made this process extremely simple and intuitive. Here is the definitive step-by-step guide.
Method 1: QR Code (The most common)
Prerequisite: You need to be connected to Wi-Fi and have the QR code visible on another screen (such as your computer, tablet, or your companion's phone).
- Go to Settings on your iPhone.
- Tap Cellular network or Mobile data.
- Select Add cellular network plan or Add eSIM.
- The chamber will open. Scan the QR code that you received in the mail.
- Follow the instructions on the screen. It will ask you to label the new line. We suggest you put "Trip".
Method 2: Manual Installation
If you are alone and received the QR on your own iPhone, you can enter the details manually.
- Follow steps 1 to 3 above.
- Instead of scanning, tap Enter details manually at the bottom.
- Copy and paste the SM-DP+ address and the activation code they provided you next to the QR code.
Final configuration (Very important!)
Once installed, make sure to:
- Set your primary line as "Default" for calls and SMS.
- Set your new "Travel" eSIM as default for Cellular Data.
- Go to your travel eSIM settings and activate the Data Roaming option (this is crucial for it to work abroad).
- Turn off "Allow cellular data switching" so that your phone does not try to use expensive roaming on your original line in your country.
